A new internet-connected lighter looks to help wean its users off their smoking habits while also lighting up their cigarettes.
The device, called Quitbit, essentially uses the monitoring principles embedded in fitness tracks to help users track and cutdown on the amount of times they smoke throughout the day.
Quitbit uses a heating coil like those found in cars to light up a user’s cigarette. And every time it’s put to use, the lighter logs the data in an accompanying data.
Choosing from a set of custom plans, the user can cut back on the amount of times they smoke throughout the day by making it clear to the user the last time they lit up, how many cigarettes were consumed within a certain period of time, and lets the user make a note of all the times a cigarette was shared with a friend / the lighter was borrowed by someone else.
Quitbit works with e-cigarette and the patch as well. It was developed by two friends who wanted an easier way to track the quitting process.
Anyone familiar with trying to quit smoking will tell you there’s a million tracking apps on the iOS and Android markets right now. Quitbit is the first piece of technology to apply actual hardware to the process.
Quitbit launched a Kickstarter campaign this past Monday with the hopes of pulling in $50,000 to go into manufacturing. You can learn more about the product and checkout the status of its fundraising campaign by checking out the Quitbit Kickstarter page.
