This year at CES iDevices announced Switch, a HomeKit-enabled connected plug that allows you to schedule and control a variety of products throughout your home. The Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-enabled device allows anything plugged into it to be controlled via voice command, or through an app.
Setting up Switch is easy. In order for it to work, it must be plugged into a home's electrical outlet and connected to a Wi-Fi network. From there, devices can be plugged into Switch and users can then control their thermostat, lights, and other household electronics.
Anyone with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can easily and securely control Switch through Siri. You can even create your own commands to control multpile home settings, such as automatically turning off lamps, closing the garage door, and locking up your house for the night. Since custom schedules can also be created for Switch, multiple devices can be turning on and off throughout the day at separate times.
Although a connected plug isn't anything new, Switch's hassle-free setup and the ability to control it through Siri (without even opening the app) is a great example of how HomeKit is paving a steady path to a connected home.
Switch will be launched the first half of this year, and will be available for $49.99.
