Smart-reset chips cure frustration from frozen gadgets

The dual-STM6524 and single-STM6519 smart-reset chips feature a low supply current of 1.5 µA and 1 µA, respectively. Smart-reset ICs provide a safe, convenient and intuitive means of resetting ‘frozen’ gadgets, such as mobile phones, media players, and other portable consumer devices. The STM6524 two inputs connect to a selected pair of buttons on an electronic gadget. When these buttons are held down simultaneously for a manufacturer-specified time, the IC sends a reset signal to the main processor.

The combination of two inputs and programmable delay time effectively prevents accidental resets. The 6-pin STM6524 also features an operating voltage of 1.65 to 5.5 V.

The 4-pin STM6519 single-button electronic devices target tablets and e-readers, with a similar programmable delay reset. It operated over 2 to 5.5 V.

Both devices implement a customizable extended input delay time, from 0.5 to 10 s and integrate a dedicated test mode, which improves device testability and slashes test costs.(ea/1,000; STM6519, $0.242; STM6524, $0.338 – available now)
