IQ Intelclinic has come out with a smart sleep mask that can sense how well a person rests and then tell them how they could do so even more efficiently.
Dubbed the “ZizZ mask”, the device is embedded with electrodes that detect and measure brainwaves, muscle tension, and eye movement. All of this data is then pooled together to determine how well the individual slept. From there, the information is sent to a mobile app for the user to review. Some of the stats available: how often he / she woke up at night, how much REM they got, and information on their sleep cycle.
Kamil Adamczyk, co-founder of the ZizZ mask, created the device not as a means for sleeping more, but rather to sleep less but more efficiently. The mask’s app will only wake the user when they’ve completed a full REM cycle, so they feel completely rested. According to Adamczyk, he only sleeps three hours a night now, and takes well-timed naps throughout the day.
The ZizZ mask is still in its fine-tuning stage. Soon, though, Adamczyk and his partners will turn to Kickstarter in hopes of raising $100,000 to bring the mask into production. If successful, the group plans on having it retail for $225.
