SMT LDO can be paralleled for high output current without hot spots

Part allows output voltage to be adjusted as low as 0 V

Claimed by the company to be the only such device, the three-terminal 1.1-A LT3080 LDO can be easily paralleled for high output current without hot spots. The device uses a current reference to allow sharing between multiple regulators with a small length of PCB trace as ballastenabling multi-amp linear regulation in all surface-mount systems without heat sinks.

The output voltage is adjustable, spanning a wide range from 0 to 40 V, and the on-chip trimmed reference achieves accuracy as high as ±1%. Featuring wide input voltage capability from 1.2 to 40 V, the device has a dropout voltage of only 300 mV at full load.

Housed in an 8-leaded DFN, an 8-leaded thermally enhanced MSOP, or a 3-leaded SOT-223 package, the LT3080 dissipates 1 to 2 W in surface-mount applications without a heat sink. In addition, the device is housed in a TO-220 power package for mounting to heat sinks for higher power dissipation. (From $1.88 ea/1,000—available now.)
