SMT resistors can handle high-pulse power

The RPC Series thick-film chip resistor can handle much higher pulse power than a same-sized commodity thick-film chip. The series is available in sizes from 0603 through 2512 with the ability to withstand a 1-ms pulse of 10 to 400 W. Operating temperature range is –55º to +155ºC.

The series is rated for surge withstanding per IEC 60115-1 up to 5.5 kV and comes in tolerances of 1%, 5%, 10%, or 20%. An example part number RPC2010JT1R00 is a 2010, ¾-W, 5%, 1-Ω resistor that costs $0.075 ea/4,000.
