Sneak preview of APEC 2013

Fairchild Semiconductor displays the FCM8531 analog and digital integrated motor controller. It is a configurable solution complete with user guides, reference designs, and evaluation boards that help motor control designers shorten time-to-market and minimize software design efforts. (Booth 209)
Infineon introduces DrBlade, the first integrated dc/dc driver and MOSFET VR power stage implemented in an innovative chip-embedded package technology. Standard packaging processes are replaced by galvanic processes resulting in a significantly reduced package footprint, package resistance and inductance. Linear Technology introduces the LTC5800 and LTP5900 the industry’s lowest power IEEE 802.15.4E compliant wireless sensor networking products enable tiny sensor “motes” to be designed with a battery life of over 10 years. Linear also is demonstrating a wide range of ultralow power ICs targeted for energy-harvesting applications. (Booth 1111)

 Maxim Integrated demonstrates the 78M6610+PSU single-phase single-phase energy-measurement processor that provides simple utility-grade sensing and diagnostics for existing designs. It contains unique firmware to meet end application requirements. It is specifically designed for real-time monitoring of data centers, servers, and telecom and data equipment. The company will also show the MAX78615 and MAX78700 isolated chipset for energy and power measurement using resistors for both voltage and current sense. (Booth 1101)

Demonstrations will include: high efficiency stepper motors, constant current regulators for LEDs in in ac-lighting, and robust, cost-effective IGBTs for motor control and demanding switching applications. Renesas highlights the REA HV inverter board with in-circuit scope and RX62T CPU. The high-voltage inverter system targets motor control applications. The company will also show an optical image stabilization system with a very low power motor drive. The motor drive uses feedback control to dramatically reduce image distortion in mobile and handheld camera applications. An ac/ac converter will be demonstrated for building and large sprinkler applications that efficiently converts ac-line power to 24 Vac with compliant PFC. (Booth 608)

Texas Instruments offers many new products at the show including a first of its kind digital-power workshop kit and an interleaved power factor correction kit. The Digital Power Workshop Kit is low voltage and includes a complete training course covering topics such as closing the control loop in the digital domain, tuning for efficiency and even includes advanced topics such as peak current mode control. The PFC kit targets customers interested in PFC techniques in the digital domain, this kit offers best-in-class efficiency, PF and iTHD performance. The company will also showcase the TPS54020 SWIFT 10-A synchronous dc/dc converter that provides 96% efficiency, a 4.5 to 17-V input, integrated MOSFETs, and a selectable current limit – all in a 3.5 x 3.5-mm HotRod package. Transphorm will continue its introduction of GaN devices. Last year the company demonstrated a groundbreaking 600-V GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) device. This year the company announce the next milestone in the development of 600-V GaN technology that is redefining power conversion. You can also hear representatives speak at five sessions including the open plenary. (Booth 707)
Vishay exhibits the SiR872ADP, an 18-mΩ, 150-V ThunderFET PowerPAK SO-8 package, n-channel MOSFET, and the 100-V ThunderFET devices in 2 x 2-mm and 1.6 x 1.6-mm PowerPAK packages providing 100 mΩ and 200 mΩ, on-resistance. The device enables more efficient operation in dc/dc converters while the smaller devices save space in power bricks. Also on view are 600 and 650 V E-series super junction MOSFETs in a range of package types.(Booth 113)
