Software simplifies digital RF generation

Software lets designers intuitively create and edit RF/IF/IQ waveforms and other digitally modulated signals

Intended for use with AWG5000 and AWG7000 arbitrary waveform generators, the RFXpress software package lets users create and edit RF/IF/IQ waveforms and other digitally modulated RF signals for applications including UWB-WiMedia. The software’s user interface makes working with digital RF waveforms far more intuitive, reducing design time and cost,

The software, which can be configured with specialized UWB-WiMedia plug-ins and a library of waveforms for thoroughly testing advanced designs, runs as a standalone application on an external PC or on AWG5000 or AWG7000 models. Supporting many modulation schemes, including QPSK, QAM, and GMSK, the software automates repetitive, esoteric functions needed to generate signals for stress testing wireless digital RF products during development. The app also lets engineers build their own modulation schemes or modify signals captured on a scope or real-time spectrum analyzer.

The basic software creates general purpose RF signals for AWGs. The optional UWB WiMedia Compliance plug-in creates AWG setup files that encapsulate standards-mandated tests and signal impairments, letting the signal generator operate without additional external components or mixers and even directly generate band hopping signals for UWB-WiMedia Bandgroup 1 and Bandgroup 2 when used with AWG7000 series units. The Custom UWB WiMedia plug-in (which includes the Compliance plug-in) lets designers work with all six WiMedia bandgroups. (Basic package, $5,000; Compliance plug-in, $2,200; Custom plug-in, is $7,200; AWG5000, from $25,000; AWG7000, from $60,000-available now.)
