Solid-state drives write at 500 Mbytes/s

The Vertex 3 solid-state disk drives have a 6-Gbit/s SATA III interfaces that contribute to read speeds of up to 550 Mbytes/s and write speeds of 500 Mbytes/s, with up to 60,000 IOPS (4-Kbyte random write).

The Vertex 3 drives feature a SandForce SF-2200 SSD processor. They use fast synchronous-mode 2Xnm MLC NAND flash technology, feature TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive's lifespan, and have a 3-year warranty. (120-Gbyte drive, $250; 240-Gbyte drive, $500 — OEM samples available now.)
