Some jerk tailgating you? Tell them to back off with this new status bar for your car

Technology offers three different moods drivers can share with fellow motorists

Well, if this isn’t a reflection of the times we’re living in, then I don’t know what is. MotorMood, a California-based startup, has announced a new technology that allows motorists to share the mood they’re in with their fellow commuters using their vehicle as, well, the vehicle for delivering the message.

That’s right — it’s status updates for your car.

If you’re having a good day, you can update your status to a smiley face emoticon. Is someone tailgating you? You can tell them to back off with an angry face. Or, if someone happens to catch your eye and you’re feeling a bit flirtatious, you can update your status to a super-cheesy wink face.

Faces are updated via a small remote control that attaches to the car’s sun visor. It’s not entirely distracting to update one’s emotional status for surrounding drivers to see — a simple push of the button is all it takes.

MotorMoods will be launching just in time for Christmas, and those interested in the product are being encouraged to purchase it as an alternative to using the more obvious form of communication: the car horn.

The MotorMood team is aware that most roadway warriors have more than three emotions when in the car, and they plan on releasing new emotions and messages in the months that follow the initial launch.

As is the case with most start-ups nowadays, MotorMoods will soon launch a Kickstarter campaign. If you’re interested in investing in the company, go to their website to sign up for a notification on when their campaign goes live.
