Sophisticated scopes have prices starting below $1,300

The 26 models that make up the InfiniiVision 2000 and 3000 X-Series oscilloscopes incorporate sophisticated technology —-a custom 90-nm CMOS ASIC with 6 Mgates and embedded memory — that allows advanced capabilities to be included in affordable instruments. With bandwidths ranging from 70 to 500 MHz, the scopes are priced starting at $1,234 for a two-channel DSO and $1,934 for an MSO with two analog channels and eight digital ones.

The 2000 X-Series offers 70 to 200-MHz bandwidths and boasts the fastest waveform update rate in its class for precise viewing of signal detail and capture of infrequent events. Also available in four-analog-channel versions and eight-digital-channel MSO configurations, the series is the first to optionally offer an integrated function generator.

The InfiniiVision 3000 X-Series scopes offer 100 to 500-MHz bandwidths and industry-leading waveform update rates of 1,000,000 waveforms/s, which is enabled by the custom CMOS ASIC, referred to as the MegaZoom IV single-chip architecture. In addition to an integrated function generator, 3000 X-Series options include a 16-digital-channel MSO and hardware-accelerated serial protocol decode.

Among the units’ other advanced capabilities are segmented memory for analysis of laser pulses, radar bursts, and serial packets; hardware-accelerated mask testing for pass/fail analysis with known-good waveforms; and, for the InfiniiVision 3000 X-Series, hardware-accelerated serial decode and trigger for I2 C, SPI, CAN, LIN, I2 S, RS-232, and other UARTs. All models have an 8.5-in. WVGA display, weigh only 4 lbs, and need little room on the benchtop — their footprint is about 15 in. wide by less than 6 in. deep. Unique in this class of instruments, the scopes are fully upgradable (including bandwidth) so engineers can purchase what they want today and add capability later, as needed.
