The A5979 microstepping motor driver IC features a built-in translator for simplified operation and a D-MOS drive H-bridge drive output. It operates in full-, half-, quarter-, eight-, and sixteenth-step modes and has a drive capability of 40 V and ±2.8 A.
The chip has synchronous rectification to improve power dissipation during PWM operation and over-current, thermal, under-voltage, and crossover-current protection. It also offers a fixed off-time current regulator with slow-, fast-, or mixed-decay modes of operation, which results in reduced audible motor noise, increased step accuracy, and lower power dissipation. The IC comes in a thin 28-pin TSSOP package with a thermal pad. Two other versions are available – A5976 and A5977.
