The DRV8880/8881 bipolar stepper motor drivers can handle 2.0 A peak or 1.4 A rms current. The devices have dual N-channel power MOSFET H-bridge drivers. The DRV8880 has a microstepping indexer control interface, while the DRV8881 uses phase/enable control.
The devices can operate from a 6.5- to 45-V supply and feature AutoTune that automatically adjusts for optimal current regulation and compensates for motor variation and aging. The DRV8880 offers 1/16 microstepping. A low-power sleep mode is available. Protection functions include under-voltage, charge pump short circuits, and over temperature. The chips are available in 28-pin WQFN and HTSSOP package types for $1.92 or $1.60 ea/1,000.
