Stereo headphone amplifier saves space

Designed for portable multimedia devices, the MAX9820 stereo headphone amplifier uses the company’s DirectDrive architecture to eliminate clicks and pops, as well as the large output-coupling capacitors required by conventional single-supply headphone amplifiers. The MAX9820 also suppresses RF radiation, thus preventing the amplifier from demodulating the coupled noise.

The part operates from a 2.7 to 5.5-V single supply and delivers 95 mW of output power (32 Ω, VDD = 5 V). It consumes less than 1 µA in shutdown mode and 3 mA during quiescent operation. Housed in a 10-pin TDFN, the MAX9820 also integrates undervoltage lockout and protection against thermal overload and short-circuit events. (From $0.44 ea/1,000 — available now.)
