Stratix FPGAs feature up to 24 11.3-Gbit/s transceivers

Chips can tackle 40- and 100-Gbit/s communication applications

Two FPGA families built with 40-nm technology feature high-speed transceivers. The Stratix IV GT offer speeds up to 11.3 Gbits/s that can accommodate 40 and 100 G communication applications and the low-cost Arria II GX has 3.75-Gbit/s transceivers.

The families have 16K to 530K logic elements and the combination of the two device types allows optimization of communication infrastructure designs. The Stratix devices have up to 24 11.3-Gbit/s and 24 6.5-Gbit/s transceivers that can connect directly to optical modules. The 11.3-Gbit/s I/Os take just 170 mW/channel, and the Arria 3.75-Gbit/s I/Os take less than 100 mW/channel.

The Stratix devices have up to 20.3 Mbits af RAM and 1,024 18 x 18 multipliers, while the Arria devices have up to 8.5 Mbits and 736 multipliers. (Arria EP2AGX20 16K LE device with four transceivers, $15 ea/100,000 — Stratix IV GT devices, shipping now; Arria II devices, May.)
