The line of electronic products that have come out of late which promise to convert your old home in to a new “smart home” has exploded in recent months. Everything from stoves to refrigerators and beyond has been embedded with various function-enhancing components, and it’s all in the name of making our lives easier.
And while this is a movement that most of us are welcoming with open arms (though not necessarily open wallets just yet), it seems like it’s only the big ticket items in one’s home that are getting the upgrades.
France-based AwoX is going against this trend with “StriimLIGHT”, a fairly ingenious device that combines simple technologies to reduce in-home clutter.
StriimLIGHT is an LED light bulb that doubles as a Bluetooth speaker. It can be controlled via the AwoX Smart Control app on one’s smartphone, tablet, or PC, giving its user the quick-and-easy capability of brightening or dimming the lights in the house, applying an alarm timer to its functions, and controlling the speaker’s volume levels without ever having to get up.
For those who pick up this device but are without a smartphone, tablet, or PC (this might be a very, very small audience I’m speaking to right now), the StriimLIGHT can be controlled via a remote control roughly the size of a cred card.
Regardless of how it’s being controlled, though, it delivers between 110 to 240 volts of LED illumination, and can fill a room with sound from its 10-watt speaker.
Thinking a step ahead to what most customer’s will eventually want, AwoX also created a Wi-FI version of the device called “StriimLIGHT Wi-Fi”. It operates the same exact way as its sister product, but the technology picks up its orders via Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth.
There’s limited availability for both versions of StriimLIGHT in the U.S. For those interested in picking one up, the device is priced at $99, and its app, which is available for iOS and Android, is free to download.
