Suit up! It could save your life

New bulletproof suit is not just for James Bond

Kevlar just not up to snuff anymore, Mr. Bond? Suit up in this fashionable new suit developed by luxury tailor Garrison Bespoke, which ensures that a busy day dodging bullets won’t stop you from looking fabulous as always once you find time to have a couple of martinis with that gorgeous femme fatale—shaken, not stirred, of course.

Originally developed for special forces agents active in Iraq, the Toronto-based Bespoke suit was made from carbon nanotubes, created using military-grade nanotechnology. The suit is woven from patented fabric that is 50% lighter than Kevlar, as well as thinner and much more flexible. The fabric hardens upon impact, so while it won’t protect you from that femme fatale’s poisonous lipstick, it will definitely stop a bullet or even a knife from going through.

New bulletproof suit stops bullets in their tracks.

Along with co-owner Michael Nguyen, Bespoke revealed in a press release that the idea came after receiving requests from high-profile clients, who wanted something less cumbersome and more discreet than a Kevlar vest to protect them in the dangerous areas they often find themselves.

The suit does come with a hefty price tag: Each individual suit is listed to sell at $20,000 a pop, and that might not even be the final price. (Still: might want to buy in bulk, Mr. Bond. Just in case).

The suit will be live tested today with live ammo at the Ajax Rod and Gun Club in Ontario, a test that will provide the first look at the fabric’s full capabilities. The event will also provide a look at Bespoke’s new collection, Town & County, and though the samples shown will not be bulletproof, each item in the collection can be made bulletproof upon request so the wearer will have a variety of stylish protection to choose from.
