Surge protection optimized for LED lighting systems

Littelfuse - Surge Protection Optimized for LED

CHICAGO, IL— Littelfuse, Inc., the global leader in circuit protection, displayed its cutting-edge circuit protection technologies optimized for the full LED lighting system during the IES Street and Area Lighting Conference (SALC) held earlier this month in Hollywood, California.

Littelfuse presented a number of luminaire driver components, including AC fuses, varistors, TVS diodes, DC fuses, PTCs, and PLED protectors. In addition to this diverse portfolio of circuit protection solutions that address a variety of LED applications from indoor and outdoor lighting to devices for LED bulb design, Littelfuse representatives highlighted two unique innovations:

  • Released last week, the LSP10GIHP Series Surge Protection Device (SPD) Module combines extremely low surge let-through with a built-in LED indicator. The low surge let-through provides unmatched protection for the luminaire extending the life of luminaires such as LED street lights and other outdoor lights, while the LED indicator alerts maintenance personnel to the need for replacement of the SPD.

  • The award-winning LSP05 and LSP10 Modules are designed specifically to provide robust transient overvoltage protection for outdoor and commercial LED lighting fixtures. A built-in thermal disconnect function provides additional protection from catastrophic failures and fire hazards, even under the extreme circumstances of varistor end of life or sustained overvoltage conditions. The booth exhibit also included a disassembled streetlight to demonstrate where and how the LSP05 and LSP10 modules can be installed.

Todd Phillips, global marketing manager of the Electronics Business Unit at Littelfuse, noted, “This year’s show drew nearly 700 representatives from municipalities, utilities, government agencies, universities and other organizations interested in learning more about large-scale outdoor LED lighting projects. Many came to our booth to learn how Littelfuse circuit protection components can help them maximize their initial investments by extending the life of their installations.”
