Surge stopper shields transients >100 V
The LT4363 controller provides overvoltage and overcurrent protection to high-availability electronic systems. It has a 100-V maximum rating and operational capability down to 4 V (cold-crank). A clamp on the controller supply extends protection beyond the native 100 V. Traditional protection circuitry relies on inductors, capacitors, fuses, and transient voltage suppressors.
The controller survives reversed battery connections to –60 V. Overvoltage and undervoltage comparator inputs ensure that the controller remains off outside a user-defined voltage range. To limit the thermal stress on the power MOSFET, it uses a VDS–accelerated fault timer. The controller can be adapted for inrush control in hot swap applications. In the shutdown state it uses 7–µA supply current. A built-in thermal shutdown occurs around 150°C. (From $2.48 ea/1,000 — available now.)
