Switching regulator platform integrates inductor

The SC202 switching regulator platform features a buck converter with an integrated inductor in a 2.5 x 3 x 1-mm package. It has a synchronous step-down regulator with 3.5-MHz PWM switching frequency, 500-mA output current and up to 94% efficiency. The on-chip loop compensation and a programmable output voltage eliminate the need for external stability control components and programming resistors, reducing total PCB space.

The switching regulator requires only two external capacitors, one for input decoupling and one for output filtering. It maintains high efficiency during light loads via an automatic power-save (PSAVE) feature that reduces standby (quiescent) current to 38 µA (typ.), and features a 1 µA typ shutdown current. The regulator operates from inputs of 2.9 to 5.5 V and provides 15 pin-programmable output voltages from 0.8 to 3.3 V. The combination of high integration, size, efficiency, and design simplicity makes it suitable for low-voltage PoL regulation applications and for next-generation small, extended battery-life handheld devices.
