Based on a patent-pending architecture, the AAT2120 and AAT2158 synchronous step-down converters deliver low spectral noise and output ripple. The first in a family of switching regulators designed for low-noise operation, the regulators target products such as mobile phones, media players, and Bluetooth accessories.

At low currents, the company says the switching regulators produce half the ringing amplitude of competing switching regulators. In system tests, spurious energy injected by the switching regulators was reduced by 3 dB. At higher currents, the two new converters produce approximately 25% less output ripple.

The AAT2120 supplies 500-mA output current, and a power efficiency of 96%. The AAT2158 delivers up to 1.5-A output and 95% efficiency. Both devices operate from an input range of 2.7 to 5.5 V and support output voltages as low as 0.6 V. The converters also offer internal soft-start, overtemperature and current-limit protection, and 100% duty cycle low-dropout operation. (Ea/1,000: AAT2120, $0.85; AAT2158, $1.55available now.)
