If you’re not familiar with traditional Easter-egg hunts, here’s how they work. Someone will hide a set number of Easter eggs for the rest of the participants to search for. Pretty simple?
Now, how about a more tech-friendly Easter egg hunt? Both New York (U.S.) and New Zealand are hosting Easter-egg hunts that use a mobile app as part of the search.
Whittaker’s Big Egg Hunt is a giant Easter egg hunt that uses a mobile app as a key tool for hunters. Anyone can join Whittaker’s Big Egg Hunt where participants will search for 100 giant eggs decorated by New Zealand artists. The eggs are hidden throughout areas of Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch regions of New Zealand.
The app is available on Apple and Android devices to make the game more interactive. It allows people to enter the completion, win prizes, track their progress, as well as interact with other hunters. It also offers an augmented reality experience so users can scan codes on the eggs or posters in stores and get a special message on their phone.
The more points people collect in the hunt, the more times they are entered in a drawing to win a 340-g, 18-ct. gold Whittaker’s Slab. The contest will continue through April 22, 2014. For more information visit the Whittaker’s Egg Hunt website.
On April 1, a three-week Easter-egg hunt kicked off in New York. Thanks to the Faberge Big Egg Hunt over 250 eggs have been hidden all over New York City. The supersized eggs are two-and-a-half-feet tall.
In order to partake in the hunt, all you have to do is download the free app so you can check the egg map. If you see an egg, it will pop up on the screen, saying you’ve just found one. At the end of the hunt, participants have a chance to win a jewel Faberge pendant.
The app is available for Apple and Android devices. For more info, visit The Big Egg Hunt website.
Faberge has already tested out their techy egg hunt in London which turned out to be a big hit, so if you’re in the New York area, get your virtual Easter baskets ready and start hunting.
