Believe it or not, some American tech interns rake in more cash per month than the median American household in the U.S. According to the Census Bureau, that is about $53,046 a year, but big companies such as Palantir and VMware send their interns home with a much fatter paycheck.

The infographic above, courtesy of online statistics portal statista.com, shows that when it comes to the highest average monthly base pay for interns in the United States, Palantir and VMware are listed as first and second, paying $7,012 and $6,966 respectively. At a close third is Twitter with $6,791 and LinkedIn occupying fourth place with an average monthly base pay level of $6,230 for interns. The popular social network, Facebook also pays its interns extremely well, at an average of $6,213 per month.

Though this does seem like a lot of money to pay an intern, and it is, their rare skill set is in demand, and the amount interns earn per month is also on par with what they might make as first year employees. However, most internships at these companies typically last only a few months.
