Tektronix releases data collaboration software for oscilloscopes

Tektronix claims the first native oscilloscope-to-cloud software that enables data collaboration directly on a scope, PC, phone or tablet.

Touted as a first-of-its-kind software solution for data sharing on an oscilloscope, Tektronix, Inc. has introduced TekDrive, a native oscilloscope-to-cloud software solution that enables global data collaboration directly on oscilloscopes, PCs, phones or tablets. By enabling instantaneous sharing and recall, it eliminates time-consuming data-sharing practices common among engineers and makes it easier for remote teams to use and share data in real-time.

This could be a game-changer, according to Tektronix, with 70 percent of oscilloscope users needing to transfer data off scope. TekDrive instantly saves data updates in global shared folders that feature secure access management and permissions at a granular level.

TekDrive can be used with the 5 Series MSO mixed-signal oscilloscope, 5 Series MSO low profile, and 6 Series MSO mixed-signal oscilloscope. Compatibility with the 6 Series B MSO mixed-signal oscilloscope and 4 Series will be coming soon.

“Aggregating data from various instruments has always been a challenge. Engineers often use unsecured USB sticks, or worse, snap photos of the instrument’s screen with a phone,” says Siddharth Deliwala, director of laboratory programs at University of Pennsylvania, in a statement. “Being able to share data directly from instruments via TekDrive is a breakthrough for engineering teams in the commercial and academic space to learn and innovate efficiently.”

TekDrive features general-purpose test and measurement file system with scope-like data visualizations. The software solution provides analysis capabilities that support any modern browser, including options to view, zoom, pan, measure, decode and analyze full test and measurement data on any device without the need for any additional software, said the company.

Other features include an easy-to-use interface for file organization, management, search, upload, and download as well as integration with secure vendor-agnostic REST APIs for scripting, automation, and analysis.

Software development kits (SDKs) and examples are available in multiple languages, such as Python, Matlab, and LabVIEW. In addition, Tektronix’s TekCloud Developer Program provides a secure way for third-party developers to add native TekDrive capability to their devices, instruments, and software applications.

TekDrive is available in many regions worldwide and will be released globally over the coming months. Tiered pricing begins at $49.99 per month for an individual. As part of the subscription, users receive a free contributor account, which grants participation rights in shared files and folders. The Enterprise Tier provides unlimited contributor accounts. A 14-day trial is available.
