7,200-MIPS chip lowers system cost
Designers of telecom access infrastructure equipment can double the number of VoIP and conferencing channels per dollar by using the cost-effective TMS320C6452 DSP. The 720- or 900-MHz chip features 32 Kbytes of L1 and 1,408 Kbytes of L2 memory, along with more than a 30% price reduction over previous versions.
The device can easily be daisy-chained using its two SGMII Ethernet MAC ports. The 19 × 19-mm BGA361-packaged chip also features a three-port GbE switch, a telecom serial interface port, a 64-channel EDMA, and a 32-bit 66/33-MHz PCI bus interface.
A second version, the TMS320C6455 DSP is said to be, at 1.2 GHz, the world’s fastest single-core device. (Ea/10,000: 720-MHz 320C6452, $94; 1.2-GHz 320C6455, $245—samples available now.)
