Tester measures and videos sample melts

Using advanced digital imaging, the MPS40 automatic melting point tester designed by Stuart Engineering can accurately capture the melt of up to three samples simultaneously at temperatures to 400°C. Melt can be watched on the unit’s 5.7-in. color VGA touch-screen display with temperatures displayed in °C, °F, or K, and an AVI file of the melt will be saved automatically for later viewing; the unit can store up to 200 video files for offload its USB ports. Further, the unit’s control can be separated from the melt chamber so the latter can be placed elsewhere — for instance, in a fume cupboard — and the control panel can be used in landscape or portrait orientation.

Users can program the plateau temperature and select a ramp rate between 0.1 and 10°C/min in 0.1°C increments and cool-down time from 350 to 50°C is just 10 min. A library of preset thermal routines can be built up to streamline repeat measurements. For materials whose melting point is not precisely known, the tester can be used in rapid melt mode to determine an approximate melt temperature and perform a test with the appropriate plateau. The unit comes with 100 sealed glass sample tubes and a glass cutter. All units are supplied with a NIST calibration certificate showing individual serial numbers. ($4,810.00 — available now.)
