Texas Instruments’ DRV8805 unipolar stepper motor with built-in chip indexer

Integrated solution for unipolar stepper motors

DRV8805

Integrated solution for unipolar stepper motorsIf driving unipolar stepper motors is a crucial aspect of your design, Texas Instruments’ DRV8805 is an integrated solution with a robust number of features that offers four low side drivers with overcurrent protection and built-in diodes to clamp the turn-off transients generated by motor windings.

The device is equipped with an indexer logic/translator that enables three forms of unipolar stepper motors to be controlled using a simple, integrated step/direction interface, including 2 phase (full-step), 1-2 phase (half-step), and 1-phase (wave drive).

DRV8805 is available in two packages: as a 20-pin SOIC (small outline integrated circuit) package capable of supplying up to 1.5-A (one channel on) or 800-mA (all channels on) continuous output per channel at 25°C, or as a 16-pin HTSSOP (thermally enhanced thin shrink small-outline) package that can supply a maximum of -A (one channel on) or 1-A (four channels on) continuous output current per channel, at 25°C with proper PCB heatsinking. Both nfeature a 8.2 to 60 V operating supply voltage and thermally enhanced surface mount package.
