Tablet: Enterprise is a handheld electronic device which utilizes a touchscreen or a stylus pen to access or process information that allow for greater mobility. Based on different market focuses and system requirements, it could be broken up into two main categories: consumer / multimedia tablet and enterprise tablet. Enterprise Tablet is designed to run a dedicated software application for specific use. It requires right mix of performance, peripheral support, and system cost to build the right solution. Target markets of enterprise tablet includes, but are not limited to shipping and logistics, field services, retails, healthcare, home and building automation, hospitality, education, and more. The Electronic Tablet Reference Design is a fully integrated, production ready, and low system cost design, tailored for enterprise tablet market needs. It is an ideal entry level solution for customers requiring a customizable, low-cost design for specific application tablets product.
Applications Processor
The AM335x microprocessor is a highly integrated general purpose processor based on the ARM Cortex-A8. It offers enhanced image/ graphics processing, and also support variety of peripherals and industrial interface options. The device supports Linux and Android high-level operating systems (HLOSs) that are available free of charge from TI. With full integration, advanced graphic support, and high performance over price, AM335x microprocessor is ideal for enterprise tablet application.
Wireless Connectivity
TI Enterprise Tablet solution utilized the Jorjin WLAN 802.11 b/g/n & Bluetooth v2.1 module based on TI’s single-chip WL1271 2.4GHz IEEE 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth v2.1 + Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) Transceiver WL1271 wireless connectivity chip. It is a fully-integrated high performance module based on TI’s 6th generation WLAN technology and 7th generation Bluetooth technology. This solution provides low-power, small form-factor, and low-cost capability for portable electronic equipment with TI’s Enhanced Low Power (ELP) technology.
Display
TI provides solutions for the LCD/OLED displays which include the low-power, high-ESD protection touch screen controllers, display interface products, and LCD bias and backlight solutions. Light sensors are also essential for continuous monitoring of ambient lighting to keep the power consumption for backlighting to down to a minimum.
Audio
The TLV320AIC3104 is a low-power audio codec device that integrates stereo headphone and class-D speaker amplifiers to extend battery life. It is capable of advanced audio processing for improved voice and music. This chip is also pin-to-pin and SW compatible with family TI codec devices to allow enable quick and easy product spin.
Power Management
TI provides the complete power management solution for the Enterprise Tablet design including a Power Management Unit (PMU) integrated with a USB-OTG Transceiver and a keypad controller. The outstanding efficiency of the power conversion extends battery run time in addition to minimizing heat dissipation.
