Tianma has introduced a family of TFT-LCD modules that offer a range of specifications for a variety of industrial and medical display applications. The first products in the P-Series (Professional Series) of standard products will include XGA displays (8.4”, 10.4” and 12.1”) as well as wide-format product, from 7” WVGA to 13.3” FHD.
Available in three grades – Advanced, Basic, and Entry – the P-Series display products cover a range of features and product specifications, including pixel density, viewing angle, contrast ratio, color gamut, and black level uniformity. This enables the standard line to meet different application requirements for industrial and medical displays.
The Advanced grade is designed for demanding applications that require more robust product specifications and performance requirements. These include high-contrast rating and longer-life LED for applications such as medical diagnostic equipment, high brightness and wide temperature range (for marine environments), and special ruggedization to withstand high shock and vibration conditions such as those found in construction vehicles.
The Basic grade of P-Series displays will offer a very good performance-to-cost ratio, said the company, meeting the standard specification and performance requirements of the market with typical brightness ratings and long-life LED backlights. The Entry level provides more cost-effective solutions for price-sensitive markets and applications. Key markets for these grades include medical, HMI, financial/POS, test and measurement, and home automation.
A brightness level range will be associated with each grade, with some overlap, Tianma told Electronic Products. All Advanced products will have a brightness level of >700 nits but the standard brightness range for Basic products will start at 400 nits with some as high as 800 nits. The brightness level for Entry-grade products will typically be below 400 nits, but there could be some overlap, said the company.
“The gating factors between Basic and Entry will typically depend on the individual customer needs in balancing cost versus product features,” said Tianma. “For instance, in medical, some customers may want or need the more traditional “industrial” spec features like 50K-hour LED life, 500-nit brightness and -20°C to 70°C operating temperature while other customers or specific end users may need a more cost aggressive product in the same size and resolution.”
The P-Series TFT-LCD modules will be available with Tianma’s PCAP (projected capacitive) touch technology, featuring its PCAP touch sensors. Wet & glove touch sensing technology also is available for high-end devices, along with an optional customized cover glass.
All three grades will be available in production for a minimum of five years (typically seven years or more) with a small minimum order quantity. The manufacture and assembly of the TFT-LCD modules and PCAP sensors will be done in-house.
Samples will be available starting in Q1 2021. These first displays will include wide-format 7” WVGA, 10.6” WXGA, and 13.3” FHD products in the Advanced high brightness versions. The first products with 4:3 format will all have XGA resolution and include both Advanced high brightness and Basic, in sizes 8.4”, 10.4” and 12.1”. Prices are not available.
