The Best of SemiApps

The Ultimate Resource for Building Next-Generation Systems

SemiApps.com, our three-year old semiconductor applications-based Web site, has been given an exciting new look and feel. We’ve added new applications such as “The Connected Home” and we’ve beefed-up the system functions sections with the addition of the “Digital Interface.” There is an exciting new content area focusing on “green” semiconductor applications (www.semiapps.com).

It’s now easier to navigate. Featured on our new home page is our extremely popular blogs section, the newest products in the news section, an easy-to-find listing of semiconductor solutions, application resources, reference designs, Web seminars, and lots of related articles. The objective of the site, as in the earlier version, is to allow electronic design engineers to easily and quickly find product vendors who provide chipsets, application-focused ICs, customizable or programmable platforms and specialized components for particular applications.

Unlike other semiconductor sites, SemiApps.com was created with an applications taxonomy. It enables the design community to gather information by application rather than a generic product classification.

As public awareness and support for global environmentalism increases, technology organizations are beginning to implement many green initiatives. There are many motivating factors behind the green movement. The strongest driver is economic.

The green movement creates significant market opportunities for companies, as evidenced by a noticeable increase in customer demand for green products and services. Energy savings is one of the most important factors in the environmental decision-making process.

Technology manufacturers are taking aggressive steps to expand their portfolio of green products and services by pursuing energy efficiency, implementing designs that reduce or eliminate the use of hazardous materials, using recycled or recyclable materials, building products that last longer, and creating packaging that meets or exceeds global environmental standards.

A growing focus on reducing the weight of products and improving their capacity for recycling is also helping manufacturers better address “end of life” issues such as the recovery and disposal of products that have run their course. This has led to our new focus on green semiconductor applications. We are eager to provide our readers with the latest integrated circuit and discrete semiconductor products that have been developed and optimized for the green environment.

Under our new Connected Home umbrella are the in-home networking and residential gateway sections. The site offers products, blogs, and detailed application resources on such topics as power line and phone line networking, voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) gateways, set-top boxes, USB/USB2.0 networking, and game consoles. See www.digital-home-semiconductors.com.

In addition to the connected home application, the site features wired and wireless communications, consumer electronics, industrial/instrumentation, security and identification, medical and military/aerospace.

Under our system function block of the new applications center are such hot topics as power management, system memory solutions, system timing solutions and the new digital interface section.

In the digital interface subsection will be such topics as High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), PCI Express, USB, and FireWire.

Semiconductor vendors are invited to provide SemiApps.com with their latest application-specific products and thought provoking blogs. The worldwide design community is invited to leave comments using the comment boxes provided below each blog.

We’d like to hear from you. Let us know your thoughts on the newest version of SemiApps.com. You can reach us at mgoldeet@aol.com. Thank you for your help and participation.
