The dumbest — yet surprisingly clever — solution ever: Soldiers use AK-47 to jump-start car

Iraqi soldiers prove innovative when jump starting dead car battery

Jump-starting a car is one of those things a majority of us have all had to do in the past.

Jump starting a car

It’s a fairly simple process — first, you make sure both cars are turned off. Then you connect one end of the red (positive) jumper cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery. After that, you connect the other red (positive) cable clamp to the positive terminal of the good battery.

After that, you connect the negative (black) portion of the jumper cable to the negative terminal of the good battery, then connect the last black clip to an unpainted, metal surface on the car that isn’t near the battery (typically the metal struts that hold the hood open is a good spot).

Start the good vehicle and allow it to run for 2-3 minutes before you fire up the dead car. If the battery isn’t completely useless, the car should start. If you didn’t do it right, well . . .

Pretty straightforward stuff. But what if you’re an Iraqi soldier and you’re in the middle of your daily tour — sans jumper cables — and your car dies?

The answer’s simple: you use your AK-47 assault rifle to fire it up, as demonstrated in the video below.

Clever? Indeed. The rifle’s metal is an excellent conductor of electricity and the soldier did take proper precautions by first taking out the gun’s mags.

Dumb? Without a doubt. Holding anything metal while electricity is running through it — let alone a firearm — is probably not the smartest idea.
