The paper-thin Printoo platform lets you add Internet-connectivity to any object

Add Bluetooth to 3D printed objects and more

Printoo 1

Developed by Portuguese start-up, Ynvisible, Printoo is an open-sourced, modular, Arduino-based platform, specifically designed to breathe life into oddly-shaped creations with little to no room for electronics. Printoo is paper-thin and flexible, allowing its circuit boards and modules to conform into nooks and crannies that are otherwise unreachable.

With Printoo’s unique modules, creative individuals can add Bluetooth connectivity, input, output, motorization, light and motion sensing, as well as power to 3D printed objects. The modules easily interface with one another, are open-sourced, and best of all, include printed components from different makers that were previously unavailable to the public. These include: an LED strip by VTT, an ultra-thin battery by Blue Spark, a soft battery by Enfucell, a polymer solar cell by Mekoprint. Other proprietary modules included printed batteries, photodetectors.

Connecting the modules together does not require soldering, only conductive tape. They can be joined in a multitude of fashions to build anything from a remote controlled 3D printed car, to a remote controlled mini zeppelin. The light-weight nature of the modules means that users can link the solar cell module, the battery module, Bluetooth module, with some motors, fans, and microservos to helium balloons to create a smartphone-controlled flying vehicle.

Since the launch of Ynvisible’s Kickstarter’s campaign, the company has double its target goal of $20,000 with nearly two weeks left to go. A basic Printoo kit costs $95 and contains the following modules: one Core, one Coin Battery Holder, one Sensors, one Ink Adaptors, four Ynvisible Display, one Capacitive keys, one Bluespark Battery set. For $20 more, users can obtain add a solar cell connector, a Mekoprint solar cell, a Enfucell battery set to their kit.
