In multiple markets, a trend of late has been the replacing of switches with pressure sensors for the purpose of providing better accuracy and greater reliability.
One company that has really encouraged this trend is Panasonic and its pressure sensors, which use a piezo resistive element to measure air flow with greater precision and consistency. The result of this unique approach is best evidenced by the wide range of markets and industries that are using this technology, including appliances, industrial, medical, and consumer / wearables.
The technical benefits driving these companies to make the switch to Panasonic’s pressure sensors include:
• Pressure ratings ranging from -100 to 1,000kPa
– Up to 0 to 1,000kPA with an offering of ±100kPa
– Low pressure – 0 to 6kPa
• High accuracy — Up to ±1.25% full scale for the amplified type
• Good handling of shock and vibration up to 200g
There are several options of Panasonic pressure sensor to choose from, but the main options are standard size (PF Series—ADP1), smaller size (PS Series—ADP4), and amplified (PS-A Series—ADP5).
Per the smaller size, it is worth noting that the PS and PS-A measure 7.2 x 7.2mm, and the PF and PS-A low pressure measure 10.4 x 10.4mm.
Panasonic can accommodate various customization requests, so as to best support customer’s designs and objectives. For more information, check out Panasonic’s pressure sensor page on Digi-Key.
