There is a revolution afoot in automotive safety, and we have chosen two SoCs that are leading the charge in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The Renesas R-Car V2H system-on-chip, rated for 7,000 DMIPS, enables new concepts in automotive safety systems. The chip starts with a Cortex-A15 dual-core CPU and adds six IMR channels for viewpoint conversion processing, an IMP-X4 core with six programmable image processing accelerators for fourth-generation image recognition, and a 3D graphics core.
The SoC manages input from six cameras around the vehicle to provide a smart 1,280 x 720 surround monitoring system with advanced point-of-view switching. It can stitch all images and create a 3D view. The chip has a DDR-3 memory interface with ECC and Gigabit Ethernet AVB in combination with optimized video codecs for next-generation automotive networks and camera systems that aid driver oversight prevention. The 647-pin FCBGA-packaged chip uses the INTEGRITY RTOS that, with this IC, delivers guaranteed real-time determinism and safety.
