These three robots just 3D-printed a habitable hut

Ditch the construction workers and ditch the plans for your next mansion-like home. Instead, get some robots to 3D-print you your own hut.

Researchers from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia in Spain have created a three-step process for 3D-printing a mini home.

The project, called Minibuilders, has been underway for six months now.

How it works

Each of the three robots is programmed to carry out different functions in the construction process (foundation, walls and ceilings, and reinforcement).

The foundation robot 3D-prints the footprint of the structure by following an outlined path with its sensors. Then the grip robot puts in the foundation layers and erects some 3D-printed walls and ceilings with cutouts for the windows and doors. Last, the vacuum robot finishes up and reinforces the newly built structure with additional layers.

Unlike your ordinary construction site, these robot workers were not designed to work together.
