Chinese electronics manufacturer, OPPO, recently announced a new version of its ultra-fast charging technology, Super VOOC Flash Charge. The company guarantees to get your phone’s battery level from 0 to 100% in just 15 minutes.
Though it’s a bold claim to make, Super VOOC will use low-voltage pulse-charge algorithms to maintain low temperatures while charging at high speeds. According to the company, you’ll be able to get 10 hours of talk time from just five minutes of charging. If you’re headed out in a rush, this can make a huge difference, at least in theory.

But with the positives we must also look at the negatives. While the technology is compatible with microUSB and USB-C cables, the fast-charging time only applies to phones with a 2,500-mAh battery. If you have a phablet with a larger battery, it won’t charge as quick.
Currently, this technology is exclusive to OPPO phones. Although OPPO sold 50 million smartphones, which are popular in China and other Asian countries, last year, its phones don’t have the same global audience as Apple’s iPhones and Samsung’s Galaxy devices. It’s unlikely that these users will switch to OPPO just for Super VOOC.
That aside, it’s clear that what OPPO has engineered is impressive and may be a sign of technologies to come from other manufacturers. We’re now able to see some real improvements for phone batteries and recharge times.
The company has not yet set a release date for Super VOOC.
