Thumb-sized datalogger can record ambient light, four other parameters

Said to be the first minilogger with ambient-light-recording capability, the MSR145 mini datalogger can record up to five different parameters, including motion, temperature, humidity, and air pressure, as well as light. With the light sensor and a 900-mAh battery, the unit monitors multiple conditions for long periods to optimize energy use and system operation.

Highly configurable, with a USB port for configuration and data upload, the logger can be ordered with two to five sensors, and sensors can be internal to the device or external for greater placement freedom. The light sensor measures 0 to 300 lux, with maximum sensitivity at 580 nm. The range for temperature is −10° to 58°C; humidity, 0% to 100%; pressure, 1 to 14 or 2,000 mbar absolute; and acceleration, ±2 or ±10 g, user set.

The device’s battery gives 5X longer operation than a standard battery. This enables 2-Msample-max recording for up to two years, depending on the sampling rate. Minimum sampling rate is 1 sample/12 hours; maximum is either 1/s (°C and RH), 10/s (mbar), or 50/s (g and lx).

Standard and waterproof versions are available with mounting or free-standing packages, and an optional add-on allows two or four analog inputs from traditional sensors. (From $261 with two sensors — contact manufacturer for distributors.)
