Most of the time, having a hard copy of something isn’t really necessary, nowadays, Even the term “hard copy” is sort of dated, especially when you can just pull it up on your smartphone. But we still don’t live in a completely paperless world, and sometimes a physical copy of what your phone or tablet is showing would be kind of handy. That’s why the Rolto printer was invented:
Created by King Jim in Japan, the Rolto printer connects to your phone with WiFi, before using its accompanying app in order to print exactly what’s showing up on your iPhone screen at the time. The Rolto then prints out the whole thing onto a tiny strip of thermal paper, even if the site or page you’re printing needs to be scrolled.
Once you think about it, it’s pretty clear the Rolto could actually be really useful. King Jim's miniature printer can be used to create hard copies of receipts (I already like it for that reason alone), or allow you to print out a recipe so you can actually keep your phone clean while cooking, for once, or even directions, so you don’t have to worry about killing your phone’s pitiful battery every time you take a trip. The Rolto will print literally anything that’s showing up on your screen.
The Rolto isn’t even much bigger than the iPhone itself, really—it’s smaller than this pocket-sized printer, actually, meaning it’s not really that hard to carry around with you. Currently, the device is selling at $160, via the Japan Trend Shop.
Now, if somebody could only figure out a way for us to print things directly from our smartphone…
