Designed to provide top performance for multi-touch screens in smartphones and tablets, the 0.5 x 1 x 0.45-mm ChipLED SFH 4053 infrared emitter (IRED) combines tiny dimensions with high efficiency. Rated at 35 mW from an operating current of 70 mA in continuous mode, the IRED can deliver as much as 260 mW from 700 mA in pulse mode.
At 850 nm, the light from the IRED is barely discernible to the human eye but typical receiver components are highly sensitive to this wavelength. ChipLEDs are available in 0603 sizes with lens types from ± 40° to ±10° and with different chip technologies, including thin film and nanostack. (Contact Sevugan Nagappan for price and availability.)
