Tony Hatton wins Inspiration Award for Domino’s Pizza Drone

Drone developers create innovative pizza copter

Last year, EP covered the creation of the “Domicopter,” by T+ Biscuits, a drone capable of delivering Domino’s pizza to customers much faster than a human delivery boy who has to wait for red lights and obey traffic laws. A self-piloted drone that hovers just a little over 400 feet over the ground, the Domicopter was one of the most innovative applications of drone technology that we saw in 2013.

The company’s drone is an octocopter, a device similar to a helicopter with eight blades, capable of lifting an insulated pizza bag. When we covered it last June, the prototype, designed by Aerosight in conjunction with T+ Biscuits, had just completed a successful field test in England, where it delivered two large pizzas in 10 minutes within a four mile radius.

At this point additional tests are still being run, but you can catch another look at its test flight below:

With such an invention, it’s no surprise that company founder Tony Hatton received an EP Inspiration Award! Congrats, Mr. Hatton. We look forward to seeing what you come up with next. Enjoy your well-deserved laurels.
