Touch controllers consume little power

The LDS6100 touch controllers are the newest members of the company’s PureTouch family of capacitive-touch devices that enable power-efficient continuous scan of buttons without sleep modes. Their power consumption of only 125 µW in continuous-scan mode suits them for battery-driven portable applications. With wide voltage range support (1.8 to 5.5 V dc), no external voltage converter is required for nonportable applications.

Furthermore, the integrated LED drivers in the LDS6100 controllers allow automatic, instant visual feedback when a touch occurs with built-in lighting options, such as dimming, blinking, and heartbeat-like effects. The controllers support a variety of industry-standard interfaces, including I2 C, SPI and SMBus, and feature direct-communication mode (DCM), which assigns a status pin to each capacitive sensor. The devices are available in a variety of package options, ranging from 28 to 40 pins, including QFN and SSOP. ($0.85 ea/10,000 — samples available now.)
