April 30, 2014 – Mouser Electronics, Inc. is now shipping the new SAM-D20 series of 32‑bit low power microcontrollers from Atmel Corporation. These new Atmel microcontrollers are based on a 48MHz ARM Cortex‑M0+ core and offer Atmel's Peripheral Touch Controller for capacitive touch button, slider, and wheel user interfaces.
The new Atmel SAM-D20 low power microcontrollers available from Mouser Electronics targets low power cost-effective applications that require in-system programmability. These microcontrollers have up to 256KBytes of Flash and 32KByes of SRAM. Up to 52 programmable input/output pins are available along with a 32-bit real time clock calendar (RTCC). Eight 16-bit timers are available, each of which can be configured to perform frequency or waveform generation, input capture with time and frequency measurement, or program execution timing. A 20-channel 12-bit ADC and a 10-bit DAC allows for efficient sampling and generation of external analog signals. The ARM Cortex-M0+ core supports 32 interrupts and offers a single-cycle 32×32 multiplier for cost-efficient support of math intensive algorithms. Lastly, Atmel's Peripheral Touch Controller provides a 256-channel capacitive touch and proximity sensing capability.
Low power design is simplified with two software selectable sleep modes. In Idle mode, the Cortex-M0+ core is stopped while selected peripherals are still running. In Standby mode all clocks and peripherals can be stopped except for those specifically selected to be kept on. An added feature, called SleepWalking, allows the microcontroller core to sleep peacefully until an important event pokes it awake, an efficient alternative to rudely polling peripherals with an interval timer.
Development is supported with the Atmel SAM-D20 Xplained Pro Evaluation Kit, a simple hardware platform for fast evaluation and development of the SAM-D20 microcontroller. The kit is based on an ATSAMD20J18 with 256KBytes of Flash. An on-board embedded debugger eliminates the need for any external tools for device programing or debugging.
