Transformer module saves board space

Bourns’s Chip LAN 10/100 Base-T transformer module combines two Chip LAN transformers and two common-mode chip inductors on a PCB with a metal shield for greater design flexibility and board space savings

Bourns, Inc. has released a new Chip LAN 10/100 Base-T transformer module  to help Ethernet and LAN-based application developers save board space and increase design flexibility. The small-form-factor transformer module integrates two Model SM453229-381N7Y Chip LAN transformers  and two Model SRF2012A-801Y common-mode chip inductors  on a printed circuit board (PCB) with a ferrous metal shield.

The transformer module simplifies assembly while providing a solution that is pin-to-pin–compatible with the traditional potted case LAN transformer. In addition, designers have the choice to use just the transformer or the common-mode choke individually for greater design flexibility on the PCB.

Bourns’s Model SM41126EL
is manufactured with an automated coil-winding process, which ensures tight tolerances required for electrical stability. The low-profile module offers an expanded temperature range of –40°C to 85°C and is fully compliant with IEEE 802.3, which makes it well suited for LAN interfaces in a variety of telecommunication and network devices.

The RoHS-compliant Model SM41126EL Chip LAN 10/100 Base-T transformer module is available now. Design tools are available.
