Triple output LED driver offers TJmax of 150°C

The H-grade version of the 2-MHz LT3496 three-channel constant current LED driver operates up to a junction temperature (TJ ) of 150°C, compared to the E- and I-grade versions’ 125°C max TJ . Each of the device’s three channels can drive up to eight 500-mA LEDs in series, enabling the driver to drive up to 24 x 500-mA LEDs at efficiencies up to 96%. All electrical specifications are identical for the E-, I-, and H-grade versions.

The device operates in buck, boost, and buck-boost modes. Features include an adjustable switching frequency of 300 kHz to 2.1 MHz, an input range of 3 to 40 V, and a quiescent current of 6 mA in active mode and less than 10 µA in shutdown mode. Each channel is operated by an independent True Color PWM signal, enabling each to be dimmed independently to ratios as high as 3,000:1. Housed in a QFN-28 package, the part has a CTRL pin that accurately sets LED current sense threshold over a range of 10 to 100 mV. (From $4.45 ea/1,000 — available now.)
