The measurement of ac and dc currents seems to be getting more important all the time. Low-ohm current-sense resistors offer the easiest and most reliable way to perform this task. A major factor driving the demand for this type of product is the growth of battery-powered equipment.
The LCS series of SMT thin-film resistors from TT Electronics feature power ratings from 0.1 to 1.0 W in 0603, 0805, 1206, 1210, and 2512 packages. Values range from 100 mΩ to 1.00 Ω with tolerances of 0.5%, 1%, and 5%. The 0603 and 0805 sizes start at 200 mΩ.
The resistors exhibit a TCR of ±50 ppm for values greater than 0.30 Ω. Their temperature range is –55°C to 155°C and power is derated from 70°C. An example part number is LCS1210-R20F. The devices are priced as low as $0.01 ea/10,000 and samples are available now.
