ProTek Devices has released a new series of high-powered, surface-mount transient voltage suppression (TVS) components for circuit protection from electromagnetic field (EMF), lightning, and other electrical fast transients in high-power applications. Targeting motor and relay applications, these SM15KWExxA/CA series of TVS components are housed in the industry’s lowest-profile packaging compared with competing solutions.
Housed in a molded DFN-2-KW package with an approximate weight of 2.5 grams, the SM15KWExxA/CA series provides a space savings with no performance penalties compared with competing surface-mount technology solutions, said ProTek.
The SM15KWExxA/CA series are suited for motor start-and-stop EMF protection and relay drives. They are AEC-Q101 qualified for automotive subsystems. (ProTek also offers the AEC-Q101-qualified PAM1IVN27 and PAM2IVN24 for automotive subsystems.)
In addition, the TVS devices provide module lightning protection and secondary lightning protection. The series provides 15 kilowatts of peak pulse power dissipation for an 10/1000 microsecond waveform.
The SM15KWExxA/CA series are compliant to RTCA DO-160G as well as RoHS and REACH European standards. They are also compatible with IEC standards 61000-4-2 (ESD): air ±15 kV, Contact ±8 kV; 61000-4-4 (EFT): 40 A, 5/50 ns, and 61000-4-5 (surge): 60 kW, 8/20 microseconds.
The series consists of five components, ranging from 24 V to 70 V. These include part numbers SM15KWE24A at 24 V, SM15KWE30A at 30 V, SM15KWE36A at 36 V, the SM15KWE48A at 48 V, and the SM15KWE70A at 70 V. They are available in unidirectional and bidirectional configurations.
Other features include lead-free pure tin plating, flammability rating of UL 94V-0, and a solder reflow temperature of 260-270°C. The operating and storage temperature range is -55°C to 150°C. The series is provided on -T7 or -T13 tape and reel, per EIA Standard 481, in quantities starting at 200 and 1,500 units, respectively.
