TVS diode array protects proximity sensors in factory automation

Double diode array feature delivers switch protection and reverse blocking protection

By Heather Hamilton, contributing writer

ProTek Devices recently launched a TVS diode array for use in the circuit protection of proximity sensors in factory automation applications. With a double diode array for switch protection and reverse blocking protection, the PDFN3-32 protects 24-V proximity sensors.

The TVS diode array is compatible with several industry standards, including:

  • IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD): Air ±15 kV, Contact ±8 kV
  • IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT): 40 A, 5/50 ns
  • IEC 61000-4-5 (SURGE): 40 A, 8/20 µs
  • Interface with Logic Input Type 1, 2, 3 IEC 61131-2

The TVS diode array’s minimum breakdown voltage is 34 V, with a maximum clamping voltage of 55 V at 25 A, 8/20 µs. The blocking diode drop forward voltage is 1.1 V at 300 mA, and the blocking diode maximum 10 ms square pulse current is 3 A. It operates between –40°C and 100°C.

The PDFN3-32 is a great solution for limited board space because it comes in a molded DFN-3 package. Other key specs include lead-free plating, a solder reflow temperature of 260°C to 270°C, and a flammability rating of UL 94V-0. The protection device is RoHS- and REACH-compliant.

The PDFN3-32 is available now and is delivered on 8-mm tape and reel, in accordance with EIA standard 481 in minimum quantities of 3,000. Sales information can be found here.
