Two ICs, software, yield unified wireless LAN
Combining a BCM4748 wireless access point LAN IC, a BCM56520 unified switch IC, and switching software provides a complete platform for a fast unified wireless 802.11n-based network.
The BCM4748 access-point IC combines an 802.11n MAC, a baseband processor, a dual-band radio, a MIPS74K CPU, a GbE MAC, and power amplifiers. It enables simultaneous dual-band 802.11n access points to be powered using existing PoE. The BCM56520 supports CAPWAP tunneling in silicon and has up to 28 GbE ports and six HiGig2 proprietary stacking interface ports. (Ea/volume qty: BCM4748, $38; BCM56520, $475 — sampling now.)
