UCC28063 is a Transition-Mode PFC controller that incorporates Natural Interleaving™.

UCC28063

It has been designed specifically for consumer applications that require audible noise elimination. UCC28063 uses transition mode to its advantage and achieves higher power ratings than anticipated. It exhibits high efficiency while employing low-cost components.

The Natural Interleaving™ technique enables both channels to operate as masters that are synchronized to the same frequency. As a result, inherently strong matching, faster responses are delivered and each channel operates in transition mode.

System level protections  for UCC28063 are as follows: output over-voltage, phase-fail detection, overload, open-loop, soft-start, input brownout and dropout recovery, and thermal shutdown. Additional FailSafe over-voltage protection (OVP) protects against shorts to an intermediate voltage that, if undetected, could lead to catastrophic device failure. Overvoltage has a soft recovery.

Advanced non-linear gain results in rapid but smoother response to load and line transient events. Reduced bias currents improve stand-by power efficiency. Special line-dropout handling avoids significant current disruption and minimizes audible-noise generation.

TI's UCC28063 features sensorless current-shaping to simplify board layout and increase efficiency. It has an operating temperature of –40°C to 125°C and is used for TVs, power supplies, adapters, gaming, D-to-A set-top boxes, and home audio systems.
