Ams Osram has added red, true green and blue (RGB) colors to its OSTAR Projection Compact LED family for machine-vision systems and stage lighting fixtures. These low-profile, ultra-high-brightness LEDs can also be used in projectors and architectural lighting.
The new LEDs join the white LED option, known as OSLON Boost, enabling more powerful and slimmer products. They are suited for premium high-power lighting products thanks to their high current density and very high brightness. Featuring a new rectangular ams Osram 2-mm2 chip, these LEDs produce very high luminous output. The true green version is reported as the brightest 520-nm product in its class with ratings of 1000 lm at 6 A.
In addition, the OSTAR Projection Compact LEDs can be packed very closely together in high-power luminaire designs due to their excellent thermal dissipation and small, flat package, measuring 4 × 4 × 0.75 mm. The thermal resistance is 1.4 K/W. The low profile enables lighting equipment and vision system manufacturers to reduce the size of their products without compromising brightness and performance, according to the company.
Compared to competing products with a domed primary lens, the flat package makes them easy to couple into optics to optimize the optical performance of the products for the application, according to the company. All OSTAR Projection Compact LEDs share the same footprint, which enables the easy exchange of colors in variants of a single board design, said the company.
The family includes the KR CULPM1.23 (red), the KT CULPM1.13 (true green), the KB CULPM1.14 (blue) and the KW CULPM1.TG (white). They are available now in production volume.
